Professional Experience
Carl worked as a tutor at the University of California, Santa Barbara’s Campus Learning Assistance Services for three years. He led tutorial calculus classes in discussion group settings and worked as a one-on-one tutor in CLAS’s math/science drop-in room, as well as a private tutor. After graduating from UCSB, Carl worked as a math tutor at the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara for two years and continued tutoring at CLAS.
Carl will begin teaching at Woodside High School during the 2019–2020 school year.
Volunteer Experience
Carl taught mathematics abroad as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho. In addition to teaching math, he implemented several secondary projects with teachers and community leaders, including a world map painting project, track/field coaching, before/after school tutoring, math club, and chess club. Additionally, he facilitated HIV/AIDS mitigation activities with students, teachers, and other Peace Corps volunteers including Grassroots Soccer, an interactive program that pairs its curriculum concerning HIV/AIDS, gender equality, and healthy living with the sport of soccer.
Hobbies
Carl enjoys running, rock climbing, hiking, and cooking.
