Why Mathematics

“My goal as a mathematics teacher is to help my students see the beauty and creative nature of the subject. I am striving to help them notice that it is more than just solving for x, or finding the surface area of a figure. Every day, I work to present my students with authentic examples of how math connects to their lives via social justice lessons and creative approaches.”

Professional Experience

Courtney’s first teaching experience occurred when she was still in high school. She participated in a future educators program that allowed her to teach in her elementary school.

In college, she tutored high school students, served as a teacher’s aide for a year, and spent a summer as an urban immersion fellow in Detroit Public Schools. Additionally, Courtney worked at Michigan State University as a teaching assistant for two college courses and at the university’s mathematics learning center as a tutor for all college-level math courses.

Courtney began teaching in Boston Public Schools during the 2016–2017 school year.

Volunteer Experience

Courtney volunteers as an advisor for her school’s chapter of the National Honor Society.


Courtney enjoys running, playing tennis, and rowing.
