Daaé Ransom

I want my students to remember that everything in science and in life is connected. I often felt in my schooling that each subject in biology felt disconnected from previous units. I have developed a year-long project to help my students see that from macromolecules to ecosystems, life is sustained through the interconnected systems contained within and around us.

Biology/ MLL Biology

Why Biology

One of my earliest memories is sitting on my mother’s bedroom floor flipping through the pages of a nursing textbook. I couldn’t read then, but I was fascinated by the diagrams of cells and human development. From that moment, I can’t say that I have ever stopped wondering how life is sustained, and fortunately for me, biology seems to have limitless potential for discovery. When I began my undergraduate studies, it seemed second nature to join a lab, and I realized just how expansive (though often microscopic) biology truly is. I love the subject for its breadth and depth, and I hope to impart the joy I have for exploring all of its nooks and crannies to my students.

Professional Experience

During college, Daaé gained a wide range of teaching experiences. She spent one summer as an instructor and resident advisor at EXPLO at Wheaton and also served as a supplemental instructor at her college’s center for advising and academic success. Additionally, Daaé worked as a course instructor for an online program at EXPLO, teaching students in grades 2-7.

Daaé’s teaching experience extends beyond college. She has been a long-term substitute at Agamim Classical Academy in Edina, MN, an instructor at Brown Summer High School in Providence, RI, a student teacher at Central Falls High School in Central Falls, RI, and a Biology/ESL Biology teacher at Hope High School in Providence, RI.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Daaé will begin her second year of teaching Biology at Hope High School in Providence, Rhode Island.

Hobbies

In her spare time, Daaé enjoys solving word puzzles, playing number games, and tackling jigsaw puzzles.
