Emma McCurry

I wanted to become a high school science teacher because I feel it is the best way I can harness my personal strengths to have a meaningful impact on future generations.

Emma’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Chemistry

Why Chemistry

Teaching chemistry provides incredible opportunities for developing logical reasoning and analytical skills, which are essential in today’s world. I find it rewarding to support high school students in developing these skills; especially when they initially resist engaging in them.

Professional Experience

Emma got her first taste of teaching as a math and science tutor for over seven years. Aside from teaching, Emma also volunteered at the Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose, California. During COVID, she worked with the La Mesa Verde program, collecting gardening data and organizing member events. In the classroom, Emma spent one year teaching Chemistry and Physical Science at Tigard High School and one year of Chemistry and Physics at West Linn High School.

Emma will start her second year teaching Chemistry and Physics at West Linn High School, West Linn Oregon, in the 2024-2025 school year.

Hobbies

Outside the classroom, Emma is the coach for cross country and track and field. She is also currently training for the New York Marathon. When not teaching or coaching, Emma enjoys doing anything outside, such as fishing, backpacking, trail running, and walking her dog.
