I was all set to teach by kindergarten and was excited about the opportunity to show people new things to love about the world. By college, I was also focused on using teaching as a tool for social justice. Education can make a difference for so many people, and I want to be able to help students of color and low-income students, who are underrepresented in the sciences, reach toward their potential.”

Why Physics

“I chose physics because of the opportunity to create, explore, and engineer in various topics in physics—for example, there’s the classic egg drop or bridge-building lessons. I can also work engineering into topics that let students think about how to study or find solutions to real world problems, such as the need for renewable energy.”

Professional Experience

Jaziel worked as a Science in Service Coordinator through the Haas Center of Public Service at Stanford University from September 2013 to June 2016. In this role, he worked with other coordinators to plan lessons, accompanied volunteers on weekly visits to underserved local elementary and middle schools, and organized training workshops for the volunteers.

During summer 2014 and 2015, he worked as a Teaching Fellow for the non-profit organization Breakthrough Silicon Valley in San Jose, California. There he taught biology, stop motion, and high school preparation.
