A teacher’s role in society is to be a model for students—a model for not only how to be a person in this world, but also everything we hope for this world to be.”

Why Science

“Science is an interesting thing. Many people avoid it for whatever personal reasons, yet they use science every day without realizing it. We need science to better ourselves, society, and to learn how everything works. I love playing the part of teacher to show people the benefits and pleasures of science.”

Professional Experience

While studying at Colorado State University, Jerick served as the Competition Director for the school’s Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate Design Series team. In this role, he managed the production of the race car, coordinated safety and rule compliance and led a team of engineering students and volunteers in their efforts to design and create a Formula SAE race car. He also raised $8500, which he used to produce a four-day seminar on vehicle dynamics.

After college, he worked as an analyst at Accenture for five years, where he developed Salesforce.com and SAP solutions for various government agencies. In the fall of 2014, he began teaching at T. C. Williams High School. Starting in the fall of 2018, Jerick will be teaching at Asheville High in Asheville, North Carolina.

Volunteer Experience

Jerick volunteered with Engineers Without Borders to help construct a cleaner building cook stove for El Salvadorians. He visited the canton of Santa Clara to refine the design and inspect their village-installed gravity-powered water infrastructure.

Then with the Hatch International Bandha Bikes project, Jerick successfully created a bamboo bicycle prototype which will be used to teach Ugandans how to create their own bicycles.

Additionally, Jerick  has enjoyed advising such groups as Students Opposing Slavery, the Ultimate Frisbee Club, and the Animal Awareness Club.

Hobbies

Jerick enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee, homebrewing, reading and spending time outdoors.
