My full potential and greatest contribution will come from enlightening and stimulating the minds of our future.”
Kimberly’s Story
Buffalo native Kimberly Voss credits her grandfather, a dedicated chemist and enthralling storyteller, for igniting her passion for science. As a child, she eagerly participated in science fairs and felt a strong sense of accomplishment from learning science. Kimberly’s dedicated teachers nurtured her inclination, guiding her path from high school at Nardin Academy to St. Bonaventure University where she earned a Bachelor of Science and the State University of New York at Buffalo where she was the first graduate to obtain a master’s degree in structural biology.
Kimberly began her career as a research associate at Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute in Buffalo. She then accepted an offer at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in Tarrytown, N.Y. to be a research specialist in preclinical protein chemistry. After a couple years, the calling of her hometown and family prompted her to become the technical director of a research lab at the University of Rochester. While she enjoyed research in both industry and academic settings, Kimberly soon began feeling the stifling effects of limited human interaction and realized her outgoing personality and experience would make her a great candidate to teach high school science.
Kimberly’s travels have taken her as far as Ireland where she studied bioinformatics and served as a tutor. She remains connected to her Buffalo roots: for two summers, she led a youth group that rehabilitated community parks in Buffalo’s south district.
